Policies & Procedures

As a school, we have to document a number of policies that set out how we work. These clarify our approaches, processes and responsibilities relating to practicalities and possible sensitive issues.

1. Admission Policy

Riviera takes pride in delivering quality but affordable education. We focus on nurturing morally upright and academically competent individuals who will be productive in society and by extension the world at large. Our admission policy is as follows;

  1. Nationality and Visa Status: All International students that wish to get admission at Riviera must have a valid passport. The school, through the Liaison Officer, processes the Student visa and where need be – the parent/guardian will be informed in case of any fees required at the immigration office. It is convenient to note that such fees are paid separately and not as part of the tuition and boarding fees.
  2. Language Proficiency: Learners who wish to join the school and are NOT fluent in both spoken and written English will be required to join the Language class for one term. Assessment is made at the end of the term and a recommendation is issued based on the performance on whether one is fit to proceed to join the relevant class.

Riviera uses ENGLISH as a basic medium of instruction and assessment.

  1. Academic Performance: On/Before admission we will require transcripts or academic records from previous schools to evaluate the student’s academic performance and placement to the relevant class.
  2. Parental/Guardian Involvement: Occasionally we may require parents/guardians to participate in school activities such as open day, visitation day, seminars, sports, graduation and any other event that is scheduled upon invitation
  3. Interview examination: We do conduct written interviews in MATHS, ENGLISH and APTITUDE tests before admission to gauge the entry behavior and as a basis of knowing where to give support while on campus.

For students joining O Level and A Level. Siting for one SCIENCE subject of their choice is a requirement.

2. Alcohol, Smoking and Drugs Policy

Riviera is committed to promoting a safe environment in which good citizenship and respect for the law can flourish. It is important to deliver a clear, consistent, moral framework that promotes the integrity of our community and gives all our pupils the understanding and self-confidence to reject illegal drugs and substances.

The educational, physical, mental, social and moral welfare of all students is the school’s priority.

 No student is expected to, or permitted to, consume alcohol, smoke or take non-prescribed drugs in any circumstances.’ “Involvement with illegal drugs” includes possession, use, supplying and dealing with illegal controlled drugs or substances resembling illegal controlled drugs

We cherish and promote an alcohol and drug free atmosphere through establishing and adopting policies that seek a campus environment free of these substances.

This policy aims to:

 Acknowledge and clarify the school’s role in preventing the misuse of drugs and drug education and ensure it is appropriate to pupils’ needs;

  • provide information about procedures in response to drug-related incidents;
  • provide guidance to teachers, support staff and governors;
  • have clear procedures for responding to drug-related incidents and applying appropriate sanctions.

The school’s approach to bullying is clear: it is always unacceptable. It damages children and the school will therefore do all it can to prevent it.

Riviera high School prides itself on its respect and mutual tolerance. Parents/guardians have an important role in supporting Woodbridge School in maintaining high standards of behaviour. It is essential that School, homes have consistent expectations of behaviour, and that they co-operate closely together.

Bullying, harassment, victimisation and discrimination will not be tolerated. We treat all our pupils and their parents fairly and with consideration and we expect them to respect the staff, the School and each other in return. All forms of bullying are unacceptable at our school and any instances will be recorded and, where appropriate, will result in disciplinary action. Riviera high School regards bullying as a most unpleasant aspect of life in any society and undertakes to prevent it in the School community.

4. Closed Circuit Television Policy (CCTV Policy)

The purpose of this policy is to regulate the management and operation of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System at Woodbridge School (the School). It also serves as a notice and a guide to data subjects (including pupils, parents, staff, volunteers, visitors to the School and members of the public) regarding their rights in relation to personal data recorded via the CCTV system (the System).

All fixed cameras are in plain sight on the School premises and the School does not routinely use CCTV for covert monitoring or monitoring of private property outside the School grounds.

The School’s purposes of using the CCTV system are set out below and, having fully considered the privacy rights of individuals, the School believes these purposes are all in its legitimate interests. Data captured for the purposes below will not be used for any commercial purpose.

Any complaints or queries in relation to the School’s CCTV system, or its use of CCTV, or requests for copies, should be referred to the Operations supervisor

5. Educational Visits Policy - Off campus procedures

Only in exceptional circumstances will the school give consent for a learner to leave school during term. If an urgent need arises, your parent/guardian must contact the school in advance and explain the circumstances of the leave out. If granted, your parent/guardian is expected to pick you up and bring you back on the agreed date and time.

Is it important that you parent/guardian speaks with the Deputy Principals or Principal and sign any necessary forms on both occasions. Learners will not be allowed to go home over weekends for weddings, parties, etc.

Everybody working in the School, staff and students alike must be familiar with the regulations set out below

All buildings have manual break glasses fitted adjacent to final exit doors. By physically breaking the glass, the alarm bell/siren will be activated. The Senior School Fire Assembly Point (FAP) for students and their supervising Staff is located in front of the boys dormitory exit gate below the dining hall and behind the girls common room for girls

All non-teaching staff, visitors and contractors and any teaching staff who are not teaching should assemble at the designated emergency points.

Fire escape routes are identified by “Running Man” signs and lead to open air

Selected staff will receive training in the safe operation of portable fire-fighting equipment and the appropriate applications for particular items but for use only in early stages of fire.

Portable fire extinguishers are located in all buildings, but should only be used to clear a path to an exit in case of afire.

Staff should not attempt to extinguish a fire, unless they have been trained to do so and the fire is minor and poses no threat to occupants of the building.

Under no circumstances is the building to be re-entered until the IC has given the “all clear”.

Fire Wardens (FW)

All teaching staff and other staff-supervising students are equipped with the skills of managing and putting off Fire.
